In an opening 45 minutes lacking clear-cut chances, Nathan Baxter was called into action just once whilst Diallang Jaiyesimi posed Town’s most likely threat at the other end.
As goalscoring opportunities remained few and far between after the break, Fela Olomola and Omari Patrick were introduced after joining in the week and it became a debut to remember.
Patrick, arriving on loan from Bradford, converted a stunning solo goal on 78 minutes to clinch back-to-back wins and extend the unbeaten run to five matches.

Having weathered the early storm the Glovers looked to make an impact at the other end and almost did so from a wicked Yoann Arquin cross.

As the half-hour mark approached it was Michael Jolley’s side who enjoyed the better of possession, but it was the visitors who engineered the game’s next opportunity.
Almost mirroring the earlier chance, Arquin’s clever low ball picked out Jaiyesimi in the middle whose shot on the swivel went just wide against his former club.
With Town’s wide men of Arquin and Green growing in influence the green and whites battled back to earn some territory of their own, albeit unable to test James McKeown between the sticks.
A flurry of corners couldn’t be converted into an opener whilst at the other end, Grimsby failed to turn promising situations into shots on goal.
Losing tempo as the halfway stage approached, both sides looked happy to go in goalless at the break with the Glovers possessing plenty of firepower on the bench capable of changing the game.
With the pattern of the match failing to change after the restart, one of those attacking options was introduced before the hour-mark when Olomola replaced Green to mark his return to the club on loan.
The Scunthorpe loanee almost made an instant impact by turning provider, pulling the ball back towards Alex Fisher on the penalty spot who failed to connect with the ball.
As both sides continued to make alterations, Patrick was introduced ten minutes after Olomola for his Glovers debut but chances remained at a premium.
Into the final 20 minutes both defences remained on top until a moment of magic from Town’s debutant.
With 78 minutes on the clock, the lively Patrick took matters into his own hands, bringing the ball down on the edge box before twisting and turning to make room for a curling effort which nestled in the bottom corner.
The 22-year-old’s debut could’ve got better in the closing stages when he bent an effort just past the post from the angle, before a late aerial bombardment from the Mariners.
Led manfully by Omar Sowunmi and Gary Warren at the back, butthe battling 11 Glovers dug in to see out a late aerial bombardment from the Mariners to record a fourth consecutive cleansheet and continue their impressive start to 2018/19.
