16th August 2019

Chosen for live broadcast as part of the National League’s 40th anniversary celebrations, the green and whites will look to continue their run of good form in Cumbria.

Goals from Rhys Murphy, Remeao Hutton and Tom Whelan saw Darren Sarll’s side pick up a convincing 3-1 win at Ebbsfleet United in midweek, building on four points collected from meetings with Eastleigh and Stockport County.

However, the win in Kent came at a cost as goal scorer Murphy and captain Lee Collins limped off with hamstring injuries which will see them sidelined for at least the next few weeks.

Providing a timely boost, Carl Dickinson made his return from the sidelines at the Kuflink Stadium whilst new signings Charlie Lee and Marcin Brzozowski have further bolstered the squad.

With the group now heading north, they’ll face a Barrow side with three points from their opening four matches.

Ian Evatt’s side couldn’t build on last weekend’s win over the Spitfires as they went down 3-2 to Stockport in Greater Manchester on Tuesday night.

Head-to-head

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the meeting will recreate the opening fixture of the 1979/80 campaign between the Bluebirds and the Glovers.

The Cumbrians won 2-0 on that occasion in front of just over two thousand spectators and will now meet on Saturday for the first time since the 1998/99 season.

Both sides won their respective home fixtures with Darren Keeling scoring the winner at Huish Park.

Officials

Peter Gibbons will be the man overseeing the action in Cumbria.

Last season he took charge of 17 games in the National League awarding 60 yellow and six red cards.

He’ll be assisted by Blake Antrobus and Robert Wainwright with Ed Duckworth acting as fourth official.
