Fellow strike Sam Surridge grabbed his first Glovers strike at St James Park and Rhys Browne was also on target in the victory.

Darren Way has no new injury concerns ahead of the tie and has already stated his intent to do well in the competition.

Chelsea’s youngsters have never won a match in the tournament since entering it in the summer of 2016.

Their previous fixture at Plymouth Argyle ended 2-2 with Callum Hudson-Odoi scoring twice as the young Blues squandered a two-goal lead and lost on penalties.

Joe Edwards’ side have a host of young talent and will provide a different tactical test for Yeovil.

Chelsea Under-21s are currently in the bottom two in the Premier League 2 and will hope the Checkatrade Trophy provides a healthy distraction from their indifferent league campaign.

Head-to-head
The two sides have never faced each other.

Chelsea were knocked out in the group stage last season, while Yeovil reached the quarter-finals.

Officials
Kevin Johnson will be the man in the middle this weekend.

The Somerset-born official has refereed 12 games this season – mostly in League Two.

He has issued 43 yellow cards and six reds – three of which came in one game.

Johnson officiated Town’s home win over Plymouth Argyle last season and the victory against Portsmouth in the Checkatrade Trophy.

He will be assisted by Matt Eva (Surrey) and Justin Amey (Dorset) with Brett Huxtable (Devon) acting as fourth official.
