The duo have been subject to a lot of interest from other clubs with the former’s release clause being met by an unnamed side.

Khan has rejected a move to the anonymous outfit and wants to help the Glovers climb the table after his suspension, while Sowunmi remains under contract until the end of the season.

A variety of scouts have turned up in recent matches to watch the Green and Whites, something Way isn’t surprised about.

“We’ve got to make sure we keep our best players,” he told iFollow Glovers.

“If you look at the scout list (for the game v Grimsby) there were a lot of Championship and Premier League scouts. It’s what I expect as we’ve got some very good, young players.”

He added on Khan and Sowunmi: “Otis Khan is a good player.

“Quite clearly anything can happen in football as we know with Ryan Hedges but I think Otis wants to stay and he’s committed to staying here to help this football club gain a winning mentality.

“Omar is going nowhere. I have to protect the football club and ultimately I’m the decision maker as a manager on whether my players come or go.

“I’ve got to be responsible to make sure Sowunmi goes nowhere.”

One player whose future is still undecided is striker Sam Surridge.

His parent club AFC Bournemouth have an option to recall him but Way believes the right thing for his career would be to stay at Huish Park.

“I just won’t answer my phone!” he joked.

“Eddie (Howe) knows what we’re doing to be developing his players.

“He’d be crazy on the back of what he’s done; he’s just played against Manchester United, so as far as his development where can he go? Which club can give him better game time?

“We’ve all seen players who have made that jump a little too early and unfortunately they’re not playing now.

“If he was going to go somewhere and play week-in, week-out I would say that move should happen but he’s developing well and fast here and I don’t think he’s ready for that jump.”

Way is happy with Town’s business in January so far and although he is expecting a quiet deadline day, he hasn’t ruled a potential incoming.

He said: “It’s been good business and one may surprise you and I don’t want to rule that one out.

“It has to be right for the squad. You can overload your squad with too many players and create a little bit of instability.

“The way the squad is ticking at the moment I feel very pleased to manage it.”
