24th December 2019

Yeovil Town return to Huish Park on Boxing Day (3pm) as former manager Gary Johnson’s Torquay United are the visitors.

In front of a packed-out Huish Park, Darren Sarll’s side will be hoping to extend the unbeaten run to eight consecutive games, last losing to Dover in November.

Last time out for Yeovil, the Glovers drew with AFC Fylde, a quickfire Courtney Duffus double spared the green and whites blushes after going 2-0 down to the current FA Trophy holders.

Torquay have found themselves in indifferent form of late; after a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Aldershot in the FA Trophy, Johnson’s side were thrashed at Plainmoor by strugglers Chesterfield with Bristol City loanee Saikou Janneh sent off and suspended for our meeting.

Head-to-head

Our last competitive meeting with Torquay United came in 2012, during the second round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.  After a frantic 2-2 draw which saw James Hayter net twice, the game would go to penalties which was won 5-4 by Yeovil.

Most recently, the sides would meet in a friendly in 2015 which Town would come out the 2-1 victors in front of 800 fans at Plainmoor.

However, our overall record against Torquay is a negative one, with the Devon side claiming 16 victories, Yeovil have 14, and the points have been shared on 12 occasions.

Stats (supplied by the National League, in partnership with LV Bet)

Second-place Yeovil are undefeated in six league games, – scoring an average of two goals a game in that run.

Torquay have lost their last six games. It is their worst run for more than three years.

It’s not just Glovers top scorer Rhys Murphy in form – attacker Courtney Duffus has scored four goals in his last three National League matches.

Officials

Sam Allison will be the man in the middle on Boxing Day. This will be his third Yeovil match of the season, previously taking charge of the home draws with Stockport County and Aldershot Town.
