Gary Johnson “cannot wait” for the start of the SkyBet League One campaign in a little over a week’s time after a 2-1 win over Plymouth Argyle last night.

Yeovil entertain Doncaster at Huish Park next Saturday and the Town boss is looking forward to the competitive nature of league football after strikes from Liam Davis and Sam Hoskins earned Johnson’s side victory at Home Park.

“As I said to the lads, the game was good for two things, really. One was that it gave us another bit of fitness and the other was that we won, but that was about it. I can’t wait for the three points because I’m getting fed up playing for nothing and at the minute the boys look like they’re playing for nothing.

“We need to now start playing for something and we need those three points, which I am hoping will give us that edge that we haven’t quite got yet.

“But, I’ve asked them to take responsibility themselves to make sure they look like they’re competing, that they’re working on their games, that they’re talking about their game and living the game because I want us to create more chances for ourselves than we are at the minute. That’s a technical thing.”

The squad are now enjoying a short training camp in Cornwall ahead of the final two pre-season fixtures against Truro and Dorchester, and former Nottingham Forest midfielder Simon Gillett has once again joined up with the Glovers.

“Simon Gillett will be joining us on our training camp, I’ve let him have a think about what he wants to do for his future so I haven’t lost total hope with him just yet.”
