Season ticket holder Ben Thick was placed in an induced coma after a car accident last month, with the 19-year-old now having to learn to walk again as Town’s manager did almost 10 years ago.
Having learnt of Ben’s situation, Way travelled to Bath’s RUH to spend time with the fanatic Yeovil supporter and share stories and experiences from his own recovery – as well as some football chat!
In true Glovers spirit, Ben has already made huge strides in his recovery and enjoyed listening to Yeovil’s 3-0 win over Crewe Alexandra on Easter Monday.
Now beginning to get back on his feet with support, Way has issued Ben the challenge of recovering to walk the Glovers out before a match – a challenge the teenager has accepted.
Having spent the afternoon with Ben, Way was honoured to have met the teenager.
“It was a real honour to meet Ben,” said the Yeovil boss. “He’s incredibly brave and clearly a very strong character.
“There’s a lot of similarities between Ben’s situation and the one I found myself in, so we could relate about a lot of things.
“Ben’s got unbelievable strength and determination and a strong network behind him so I want him leading out the side before too long – we’ll help however we can.”
Everyone at Yeovil Town Football Club wishes Ben all the best during his rehabilitation and look forward to welcoming him back to Huish Park in the near future.
