The Glovers earned a trip to Bloomfield Road after smashing another fourth tier club in Colchester United 5-1.
Nick Crittenden netted on the stroke of half-time in Lancashire and it proved to be the winner on a memorable occasion for the club.
“They were flying high in Division Two and we were towards the top of the Conference,” the ex-Green and White winger recalled.
“We had a young team and we felt confident going into every game. We always thought we were going to win every time we crossed the white line.
“It was chucking it down with rain and the only reason it wasn’t called off was because it was live on Sky!
“I remember not having a good game up until I scored. I’d given the ball away a few times and scored just before half-time. I was good after that!
“Tony Pennock made a few good saves in the second half and we managed to hold on for the win.”
Crittenden continued: “The next day I was on the back of every national newspaper.
“It was the 20th league scalp for the club but I remember waking up and thinking it was weird to see my face everywhere.
“I didn’t think much of the win but the papers loved it!”
Town host Sky Bet League One outfit Southend United at Huish Park in the first round of the competition.
Crittenden backs the club to win and says it’s a chance for the players to become a hero.
He said: “People still say to me now ‘I was there’ or ‘I remember your goal at Blackpool’.
“The lads have got an opportunity for fans to talk about them for years to come.
“I back them to upset Southend and progress to the next round. It’s the Yeovil way!”
