The Glovers have conceded 28 times in Sky Bet League Two this season, going behind early on in several matches.

On Tuesday, the Green and Whites were 2-0 down at half-time against Cambridge United and despite a valiant display, couldn’t complete a deserved comeback.

Long-serving defender Smith says the squad can’t afford to keep putting themselves in that position and are working hard to stop it.

He told iFollow Glovers: “We can’t afford to have incidents where we go behind in the first half and have to fight back.

“It’s something we’re addressing and I know we will get it right because the staff are always pulling us to one side and making sure we see things to do that.

“It’s so close and that’s the frustrating part about it. You can see a few wins will take you well up the table.

“A lot of the games we have lost have been silly little goals which if we did eradicate we’d be up there so it’s about getting it right.

“I 100 per cent believe we will.”

Yeovil travel to Barnet on Saturday to take on a Bees side winless in nine matches in all competitions.

Darren Way’s side have netted late goals in their last two outings at the Hive and Smith vows three points will be on the minds of the whole squad.

“For me, it’s about going there and getting the result we need right now,” Smith said.

“We know what their threats are going to be and we hope we can nullify them.

“Every game is there for the taking so we’ll go there with our minds fully on the win.”
