The Algerian defender signed on a month-to-month basis in November but was rewarded with a deal through until the end of the campaign earlier this week.

Back in English football for a second spell after time abroad in his native Algeria, France and Ukraine, the 24-year-old is looking to put down roots in Somerset.

A graduate from Norwich City’s Academy, Gafaiti is targeting a prolonged spell in green and white.

“Stability is an important word,” he told iFollow Glovers. “When you look at where I’ve been in the last couple of years after I left Norwich, they’re only six month spells with every club I’ve been at.

“I’m really happy here, enjoying it, enjoying the team, the club, the city, the fans and stability is the word. I want to stay here as long as I can.

“The only thing that I wanted was to get a new contract and keep playing for the club and that’s happened, so it’s all good.

“I’ve got another six months where I can do everything I can to make sure we stay in the EFL and keep as many clean sheets as we can.”

On a run of disappointing form, the Glovers head to high-flying Mansfield on Saturday looking to pick up a much needed three points.

Aware of the club’s poor recent record, Gafaiti is in determined manner ahead of the trip to Nottinghamshire.

“This is just a normal game, this is football,” he said. “We know the situation at the moment is tough, we all know that and are aware of that but we’re not putting extra pressure on ourselves.

“We know it’s important, that’s our job. We have to do the job and go on Saturday to Mansfield and make sure we get those three points which we’ve been looking for for a long time now.”
