Courtney Duffus’ second goal in as many games looked to have been enough for back-to-back home wins before Adam Thomas found the back of the net on 87 minutes to peg the hosts back.

Darren Sarll’s side now face consecutive away fixtures with a trip to Ebbsfleet United in midweek before heading north to Barrow next weekend.

Speaking to YTTV after the match, Alcock is targeting an instant return to winning ways: “We were the architects of our own downfall. The warning signs were there and we got away with it a bit on Tuesday, but we couldn’t quite do it this time.

“We’ve got to dust ourselves off because there’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves as we go again on Tuesday.

“It does feel like two points dropped but if we can go there (Ebbsfleet) and get a result on Tuesday and win on Saturday, you can almost forgive us a little bit. We know its going to be tough but we know what we’re up against.

“It’s not going to get any easier, the battles are going to be there each week. Like Terry (Skiverton) said to us, it’s going to be 50 battles all season and we’ve got to stand up to that and make sure we win more than we lose.”

For Alcock, the defender is enjoying a rejuvenated second spell as a Glover.

Returning to the club in February, the 31-year-old fell out of favour early on but has become an integral part of the side under Sarll’s tenure.

“From my point of view, I can only thank the chairman and the gaffer for coming in and giving me the chance,” he said. “I’m not going to go back over last season because it’s happened now but this year is a new outlook and it’s positive.

“No matter what happens as a group and a team, we might not always be the best but we will keep trying and going to the end because that’s what the gaffer wants from us.

“I felt I was getting pensioned off last year but I’m still young I like to think. This is my hometown club and I want to get us back in the Football League.”
