Darren Sarll was left delighted that his side were the winners of the first competitive derby between Yeovil Town and Weymouth since 1999.

First half goals from Josh Neufville, Albi Skendi and a late penalty from Joe Quigley ensured Town took three points from their trip to the seaside.

Reacting to the Glovers’ complete performance, Sarll said; “I thought the first 35 minutes was as good as I’ve seen us, we had great intensity, a good attitude, and a very competitive edge.

“I thought we were very good, very dominant, that’s two games in a row for Adam (Smith) where he’s not had a shot to save. It was nice to name the same back four again, and you can see the benefit of that consistency with a rare clean sheet.

“We started very quick tonight; we were very focused. It’s easy to motivate players who have been humiliated, when you’re playing against the humiliator, it’s a different thing for a game like this, when some players may not know about the Weymouth vs. Yeovil rivalry, which is why Terry (Skiverton) did the team talk tonight. He obviously has that history; he did a great job at making sure the players knew they were responsible for a hell of a lot tonight.”

He continued to note the importance of earning the supporters backing; “We know we’ve got to earn their credit back, and we’re prepared and willing to do that by fighting and digging deep. It’s always been part of my character to role my sleeves up and we’re showing that at the moment.

“It’s nice to say for the first time this season, we’re in a strong vein of form, we’ve picked up some good wins across the last five games apart from the disappointed away to Torquay, but we’re getting there, and we were terrific tonight.”

Commenting on individual performances, the gaffer was left particularly pleased with the showing of Matt Worthington; “I thought he was incredible, absolutely incredible. Him and (Josh) Neufville in the first half were sensational.

“It wasn’t just their possession game, but out of possession too, I thought ‘Worthy’ was just scintillating, his reading of the game, his intercepting passes, the way he got us on the attack, with really good and difficult passes after winning it.

“I just thought he was really good, it’s lovely to have him back in that kind of form.”
