Months of training climaxes for 20 Yeovil Town supporters this week as they set off on a gruelling 200-mile charity cycling challenge.
The committed group will pedal from Crewe Alexandra to Huish Park ahead of this Saturday’s final home game of the season, setting off on Thursday morning and stopping at Worcester and Bath.
In the process they will raise thousands of pounds to be split equally between Prostate Cancer UK, St Margaret’s Hospice and the Glovers’ Community Sports Trust.
Supported by the expertise of multi-event specialists Events Crew every mile of the way, the cyclists will return to Yeovil before kick off to be presented to the crowd.
Western Gazette sports editor Chris Sweet, who is cycling thanks to Crewkerne firm CycleLife supplying a road bike, said: “The wait is almost over and I think we are all just keen to start now.
“Without doubt it’s going to be a mentally and physically demanding two-and-a-half days, but we’ve raised a significant amount of money already and hope Glovers’ fans will continue to be so generous this week.
“We must thank Events Crew, Ridlers Coaches, JRH Media, Westbury Packaging and CycleLife for their support as without them we wouldn’t be able to even set off this week.
“Nuffield Fitness Health and Wellbeing Centre in Yeovil have also been tremendous. All the cyclists enjoyed a brilliant quiz night last Friday that raised approximately £500 for the cause and we all benefitted from a spinning class there yesterday.”
Fellow fans wishing to track the cyclists’ progress later this week will be able to do so on this website, at www.thisissomerset.co.uk, on Twitter and Facebook.
