Clubs were last month asked to consider three options for the future of the competition:
– Keep the current 64 team format to include 16 invited teams (Under-23 teams)
– Revert to a 48 team competition
– Scrap the competition altogether
The club met with the Achieve by Unity Supporters Consortium to discuss the matter where a number of opinions were put forward. However, the majority view was to retain the current format.
Taking this into account, the club felt the footballing and commercial advantages to the competition in its current format were also beneficial, with the Glovers accumulating an almost six-figure sum by reaching the quarter-final stage.
The results of the vote will be released later this week once collated by the EFL.
