Despite being just 18-years-old, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Yeovil Town manager Darren Sarll have a long-standing relationship in football.

Prior to taking the reins at Huish Park, the boss was academy manager at Premier League side, Watford.

Whilst heading up the academy at Vicarage Road, Sarll first encountered our latest addition on his first day at the club, whilst the then 15-year-old was on work experience.
Speaking to Adam Leventhal from the Athletic in 2019, Sarll reminisced on his first encounter with Lo-Everton; “This kid walked in with a four-barrelled name.

“I remember after the third run of six I said to him ‘Come out, you’ve done enough, that’s enough for you.

“He refused. He said ‘No, no, no I want to do what they’re doing.’”

Despite not even kicking a ball in front of Sarll, the boss took a liking to Lo-Everton almost instantly.

“Straight away he endeared himself to me, because at 15 he gave a grown-up answer — a big boy answer.”

“He had his trainers on, and I hadn’t seen him kick a ball, but you get a scent of anticipation when you get a young player like that who reacts so maturely, so I was looking forward to seeing this lad with the ball at his feet.”

As the youngster developed, Lo-Everton became a key component in the Watford youth sides, most notably for the Watford U18’s who enjoyed a heroic run in the FA Youth Cup, with both Sarll and Lo-Everton heavily involved.

Still only 18, the Watford youngster now links up with Sarll again to continue his development into the men’s game.

“We’ve got a good bunch of lads here, and with the Gaffers’ sessions, it’s been enjoyable!”, said Blu-Everton after his loan deal was confirmed.

“I think he (Sarll), brings the best out of me, he’s great to work under.

“Where’d I’d played against Yeovil for Wealdstone, the club have said they like me, and need a player like that.

“From there he (Sarll) was straight on the phone to my agent!”

Lo-Everton will be looking to make his first competitive start for Town in two weeks’ time as King’s Lynn Town visit Huish Park, for tickets click HERE.
