20th April 2014

Easter Monday is normally one of the key dates in the football league fixture list, the outcome of sides at both ends of each division and this one looks like being exactly the same.

Burnley can confirm their promotion to the Premier League and at the other end Torquay could find themselves planning for life in non-league.

So, with that in mind we shall try once more to find you five teams to win themselves three points and you a few quid with the League sponsors, SkyBet.

We start in the Championship and Sheffield Wednesday who host Charlton Athletic.

Charlton had been on a recent bit of good form, but that seems to have turned around and the Addicks are still under threat of falling through the trap door into League One.

Charlton have lost three of their last six on the road while Sheff Weds have won four of their last six at Hillsbrough.

I think, that with results elsewhere not suiting the away side nerves may start to take their toll and with Wednesday getting their home form in order then I’m backing the home side to keep Charlton sweating on their safety.

Sheffield Wednesday v Charlton – Sheffield Wednesday win @11/10

Staying in the second tier and I have to back against a Blackpool side in freefall.

They dropped into the relegation zone this week and it’s set to go from bad to worse for the Tangerines.

They make the long trip to Brighton on Monday and this game really should only go one way.

Brighton are on the brink of securing their place in the play-offs and should be too much for Blackpool who are better at clearing tennis balls thrown onto the pitch by their supporters than clearing away waves of attack.

It’s a short price, but a bit of a banker.

Brighton v Blackpool – Brighton win @ 8/15

Into League One and we have two more selections, both of whom are home sides out to continue recent form.

Firstly Notts County had their ‘now or never’ moment a couple of weeks ago and have now won four out of their last six and three in a row at home.

They are now within touching distance of safety and they host a Crawley side who don’t travel well.

They won last time out on the road, but prior to that, it was four defeats in a row.

So, another home win and a price of odds against which is rare for a home side in this form.

Notts County v Crawley  – Notts County Win @ 21/20

Staying in League One and Swindon are arguably in as good a form as anyone in the division and have picked up 15 points from their last six.

They still harbour play-off ambitions, and hosting a Bradford side who are the very definition of “mid table”.

13th in the league, 15th in the form table and unable to string together a decent set of results.

Another short price, but another dead cert.

Bradford are already dreaming of a nice holiday, while Swindon still have their dreams focused on Championship away days at Nottingham Forest, QPR and of course, Yeovil next season.

Swindon v Bradford – Swindon win @ 8/11

Finally we have one selection from League Two and for once, it’s not Scunthorpe! (Although, at home to Oxford should be another home win for the Iron)

I am instead choosing their closest rivals, Chesterfield.

They travel to Dagenham and will want to keep the pressure on Scunthorpe who currently sit top of the pile.

Chesterfield haven’t lost in five and have leapfrogged Rochdale into second place.

To finish off then, an away win at a tempting 5/6.

Dagenham v Chesterfield – Chesterfield win @ 5/6

There we have the five sides and as you can tell we’re not going for any shocks so it’s not the biggest returns in the world, but a £5 acca will still return over £100.

Not to be sniffed at!

YTFC SPECIAL
Yeovil Town kept their first clean sheet since mid-March on Friday and it could be another chance for the Glovers defence to shine this week.

Yeovil, who had their regular back four of Luke Ayling, Shane Duffy, Byron Webster and Jamie McCallister to thank for keeping Marek Stech relatively quiet during the game at Blackburn.

With this Monday’s game proving to be one of the biggest in the club’s recent history, the form of the defence could be all important.

Huddersfield’s terrible form and the Huish Park faithful behind the lads I can see Yeovil winning and keeping a clean sheet in the process.

A 1-0 Yeovil win is 15/2, 2-0 looks tempting at 11/1, but my bet is simply “Yeovil To Win to Nil”

This is available at 7/2. Very tempting.
