21st March 2014

With another set of Football League fixtures, I’ve taken the chance to look at the SkyBet coupon and try and pick out a few winners.

I’ve noticed a pattern too, there are some sides in good form that all away from home against those who are struggling either in the league table or the form figures. We have two from the Championship, two from League One and final selection from League Two.

In the Championship we start with a Yorkshire derby.
Doncaster play Sheffield Wednesday and the Owls are now well out of trouble and find themselves safely in mid table, but Doncaster are right in the relegation mix.

Wednesday are on the mend after a mini blip winning their last two and despite Doncaster’s decent home form, I’m going to throw in the visitors to take all three points.

Leon Best is on fire and tore QPR to shreds on Tuesday, he could be the catalyst again this weekend.

Doncaster v Sheffield Wednesday – Sheffield Wednesday win @ 13/10.

Next up, Reading haven’t suffered defeat on the road in four attempts and the Royals are on the road to Birmingham who haven’t won in front of their own fans in six attempts.

Reading are still trying to force their way into the play offs while the Blues are hovering dangerously close to the bottom sides.

It’s the second away win here for me, it might be a close one, but I fancy Nigel Adkin’s men to take the points.

Birmingham v Reading – Reading win @ 7/5

Into League One and Leyton Orient are in fine form and they travel to Walsall who are… not!

The Saddlers have picked up just two points from their last six games and Orient need to get back into the top two or will face the lottery of the play offs.

Orient have scored more goals on the road than anyone else this season and I’m thinking they can rack up a few more in the midlands on Saturday.

Walsall v Leyton Orient – Leyton Orient win at 21/10

When it comes to away form, there are few better than Preston who have got a result on each of their last six trips.

They travel to Swindon on Saturday, Town have lost their last two on home soil and only Walsall and Notts County are below them in the form table.

North End are rightly favourites, but a price of odds against at 6/5 is maybe a bit took big.

Swindon v Preston North End – Preston win at 6/5

Finally, in League Two, it seems to have gone under the radar but York City are in fine form.

They have won 5 out of the last six, drawing the other one, and on the road have won four in a row.

It’s a long trip this Saturday as they travel to Portsmouth, but those motorway miles could be worth it.

Pompey haven’t won in four and drew their last two at home, so I’m going to be brave and back the League’s form team to take all three points away from home.

Portsmouth v York – York win at 6/4

A £5 accumulator on these five travelling sides will reap a massive return of well over £450.

To get five away sides correct is often asking quite a lot, so for a bit of value, consider dropping the stake and covering four folds and the accumulator, just in case one lets us down!

THE YTFC SPECIAL

Sometimes, for some of the world’s best strikers goals are like London buses, after a long drought two come a long at once.

I wonder if that applies to long serving defenders as well?

Luke Ayling’s last gasp goal on Tuesday was his first League goal in over 100 appearances and the defender is 9/1 to repeat the feat and score at any time.

However, a more likely source of goals is Ishmael Miller and after two more goals on Tuesday he is clearly favourite to opening the scoring again.

His brace on Tuesday was both spectacular and important; another double from him on Saturday is 12/1.

Two rather long price selections I’ll admit, but for Glovers’ fans, the events of Tuesday night might stick in the memory for some time.

Yeovil are actually outsiders of the two teams to win the match, so for someone who prefers their odds a little shorter, simply backing Yeovil to win at 2/1 might suit.
