Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this Saturday when the Glovers host Cambridge United, as part of the build up to the fixture we look at a player to have represented both sides.


They say that a powerful throw in is equivalent to a corner in terms of attacking threat and the defender we’re profiling today was known to launch a ball as far as Rory Delap could during his time at Stoke City.

Plucked from Non-League, Curtis Haynes-Brown would play a season at both Yeovil and Cambridge causing problems for defences with his long throws and for those who print the shirts trying to get all those letters on.

Curtis started on the books of Colchester United as a youngster and played a regular part of their youth teams right up until 2008 when he was released.

During his time there, Ipswich Town had offered him a trial but he left the U’s heading into non-league.

Initially with AFC Sudbury – the side that Yeovil signed Craig Calver from in 2010 – he played two seasons before leaving them and climbing up the Isthmian League ladder to Lowestoft.

It was here he really started to sign, playing both in the centre of defence and in either full back position. His time there was short but it did include a trip to the division’s play off final.

Lowestoft would lose out to Tonbridge Angels in the decider as they fell just short of a place in the Conference South.

It was in the summer of 2011 that clubs from the Football League were starting to show interest, initially Crewe had taken a look and then Yeovil came in for the defender.

Despite his manager’s best attempts to keep Haynes Brown, the defender put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Huish Park shortly before the start of the 2011/12 season.

The Glovers, never normally part with cash for a player, but so convinced was Terry Skiverton on the player’s ability, a fee was paid to Lowestoft Town for Haynes Brown.

His two years with Yeovil would prove to be a bit hit and miss, he made his debut in August and only played 12 more times during that first campaign.

More often than not he went as an unused substitute, but did hit the headlines went sent off against Sheffield United for a second yellow card in just his fourth match for the Glovers – which also happened to be his first match at Huish Park.

A year after signing for Yeovil, Haynes Brown would go on loan to Wimbledon to try and regain his match sharpness, but injury prevented him holding down a regular spot and he was restricted to just a handful of games.

After two months away, he returned to Yeovil but would only make a two minute cameo in the FA Cup defeat to Preston before heading back out on loan.

This time, he would go on loan to the team we face today, Cambridge.

Cambridge were in the Conference and had another Glovers loan favourite Jed Steer in their side when Hayne Brown joined.

Initially the deal would keep Haynes Brown at Cambridge from December through to January, he would play four times over the busy Christmas period and as the new year signalled the opening of the transfer window Haynes Brown penned a permanent deal at the Abbey Stadium.

He played over a dozen more times over the remainder of the season, as Cambridge finished in 14th place.

At the end of the year, there were changes at Cambridge and Haynes Brown was released – he would return to Lowestoft where he and his manager were quoted as saying he had unfinished business at the Crown Meadow ground.

During his second spell there, he would get that play-off victory he had missed out on first time around and was once again alerting clubs from higher divisions.

At the start of the 2015/16 season, as the Lowestoft deal was drawing to a close, he was offered a new deal but turned it down in favour of a move to Macclesfield Town in the National League.

However, in a pre-season friendly against a local side, Haynes Brown ruptured a ligament in his Achilles and had been ruled out for the entire season before it had even begun.

Haynes Brown should be linking up with former Glover Efe Sodje in the heart of defence, but instead is reduced to watching from the side lines.

It has been an eventful career for a man who is only 26 years old and has the chance to return to action with his new club when rehab has been concluded.
