After advancing in the FA Cup on Tuesday evening, attentions in the Yeovil Town camp turn to National League action with a trip to league leaders Grimsby Town.

Since dropping out the EFL last campaign, Saturday’s hosts have taken the National League in their stride, losing just once in 11 games this season. 

From a Yeovil Town perspective, Darren Sarll will be hoping his side can continue the good feeling after a penalty shootout victory over arch-rivals Weymouth.

Darren Sarll’s thoughts 

Looking ahead to the fixture, Sarll said;

“Whenever my teams in the past have played at Grimsby, I’ve always enjoyed it.

“I’ve won there, I’ve been beaten there. They’re in great form at the moment and they’ll have the crowd with them. 

“Paul’s (Hurst) done a good job getting them off the mark after coming down. I know how difficult that is to pick a club up.

“It’ll be a good experience, probably the biggest crowd some of them have played in front of, and the crowd at Grimsby can be quite vociferous!”

Team news 

The injury situation largely remains the same for Yeovil, with Morgan Williams, Luke Wilkinson, Alex Bradley, Mitch Rose, Reuben Reid and Mark Little all unavailable.

Wilkinson is the closest to a return, and could be involved next week against Solihull Moors whilst Little and Reid are still on course for December.

Toby Stephens will be unavailable due to family reasons, with all at the club sending our best wishes to him and his family.

A foot in the opposition camp

Climbing to the top of the league, Grimsby Town have produced a number of fine performances this season, key to these victories are forwards John McAtee and Ryan Taylor who both have five goals each. At 33-years-old, Taylor brings a wealth of experience within the EFL alongside his goals whilst McAtee at 22 is maturing into a strong forward for the level. 

In the dugout for the hosts is Paul Hurst, well-known to the Grimsby fans, Hurst is in his second spell as sole manager of the club having originally managed on a joint basis with Rob Scott. During his first spell in charge, Hurst held a very respectable 49.5% win rate with the Mariners before venturing to Shrewsbury, Ipswich and Scunthorpe. 

Have we met before?

Our last trip to Grimsby was a successful one in September 2018 as Yeovil snatched a 1-0 victory over the Mariners as Omari Patrick struck with just over ten minutes remaining.

Later that season as Yeovil’s form took a downturn, Grimsby won the return fixture at Huish Park 3-1.
