Yeovil Town's youth team went down to a solitary goal from Swindon Town on the hour mark at Somerton this weekend.
Both sides played the last twenty minutes with ten men as Nick Lyskov retaliated to a kick from a Swindon player, both players receiving their marching orders.
Acting Head of Youth Scott Green, speaking exclusively to
www.ytfc.net expressed mixed emotions after the final whistle. The boss said "It was a good result in one way, holding one of the top sides in the division to just 1-0 but disappointing in another that we're still below par and capable of much more."
Swindon benefited from the blowy wind and the slope in the first half but were in deficit in terms of chances created. Lloyd Matthews and Will Gordon both had chances with shots while Rhys Baggridge tested the visiting keeper from a corner and Joe Grimstead hit a volley over.
In reply, Swindon had an early chance that Steve Boore did well to save and at the other end of the half, a Swindon attacker shot just wide.
In the second half, Yeovil had the elements and the slope with them and almost took an early lead with a shot that was cleared off the line. The Robins replied with two chances of their own, the first of which saw a shot blocked on the line by their own player.
On the hour, Swindon took the lead with a breakaway goal that hinted at an offside. Yeovil had a corner cleared and the Robins broke up the other end of the field and scored the game's only goal.
On 70 minutes, a Swindon player and Yeovil's Nick Lyskov earned red cards for themselves after kicking each other, Lyskov's coming in retaliation. However the reduction in players couldn't produce a further goal for either side despite the best efforts of Rob Clowes who shot wide at the end.
