OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF LANGUAGE CLUB

Posted on: Wed 21 Oct 2009

The offical launch of the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust Language Double Club has taken place at The Sir John Colfox School and Language College at Bridport.

T
he pilot scheme has been running for the last two weeks and is based on a similar model run by Premiership club Arsenal in London.

Children participate in 45 minutes of French tutoring which is based around football followed by 45 minutes of football coaching where what they have learnt in the French lesson is put into practice on the football field.

Early indications show that the students love the interaction the courses provide with football and the beautiful game providing a focus that most teenagers can relate to.

Yeovil MP David Laws and his European counterpart Graham Watson were in attendance along with Yeovil Town manager Terry Skiverton and player Jean-Paul Kalala along with members of the local press from Yeovil and Bridport.

Jean-Paul played an active role in both the classroom and the football pitch and was delighted to be invited to take an active part in the scheme.

"I was delighted to be involved in what I think is an excellent way to help improve students to adopt my native tongue.

"The scheme also provides a great link to football and my own club Yeovil Town. I am looking forward to being involved with the scheme as it evolves over the coming months."

Local MP David Laws was equally impressed and is encouraging the Trust to extend the scheme to two Yeovil schools.
