Show Racism The Red Card Roadshow at Huish Park

Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust in conjunction with Yeovil Town Football Club is hosting and supporting an anti-racism event for local school children. Somerset County Council and Somerset Racial Equality Council (SREC) are backing the event.

A full-day-event to fight racism in football and society will take place on Thursday, 26 March 2009, at the Yeovil Town Football Club.

More than one hundred Year 6 students from seven different schools will have the opportunity to meet Yeovil Town players, Terrell Forbes, Lee Peltier and Gavin Tomlin.

There will be workshops in the morning, followed by the screening of the latest Show Racism the Red Card DVD anda question and answer session in the afternoon.

The day will be rounded off by an autograph session with the players.

Show Racism the Red Card is an anti-racist charity, which was established in January 1996. The aim of the organisation is to produce anti-racist educational resources, which use the high profile of professional footballers to combat racism.

Ged Grebby, Chief Executive, said: "Show Racism the Red Card are extremely pleased to be working with Yeovil Town Football Club, Somerset Council and SREC. Due to the great support we have received from the club and the Councils, we have been able to print 5,000 Yeovil Town anti-racism posters this season for free distribution.

We very much look forward to what will be a memorable event."

Councillor David Green, Local Member for Yeovil South, commented: "I am delighted to be associated with this event in view of Yeovil Town Football Club's fantastic pioneering work in this particular field. Somerset County Council firmly believe that there is no place for racism in sport nor for any other form of discrimination in today's society."

Show Racism the Red Card will distribute free resources such as posters, magazines and stickers to all students attending the event.
