The Glovers' home form will be crucial to their survival battle, according to on-loan midfielder Jon Worthington.Since Terry Skiverton's appointment as manager, Yeovil Town have not won in six matches, drawing two.

After the Glovers lost 4-0 at Leeds United last midweek, their season stooped to another low on Saturday as Coca-Cola League One relegation rivals Brighton & Hove Albion romped to a 5-0 home win.

The latter result is Yeovil's heaviest defeat since joining the Football League in 2003 and left them only three points above the drop-zone.

Worthington, who is in his second month on loan from Huddersfield Town, has played only two games at Huish Park since moving south.

Both were draws, Yeovil sharing the points with Oldham Athletic and Carlisle United.

The combative player is now looking forward to three consecutive home matches and an opportunity for the club to reverse their fortunes.

During the next few weeks the Glovers will come up against high-flying MK Dons, relegation-threatened Swindon Town and Northampton Town.

Worthington said: "Good home form is a big thing. I know in my spell here we have had a load of away games and only two at home.

"Carlisle United was disappointing because I felt we should have hung on and seen out the game. If we had done that and won then I think we would have been in a strong position.

"We have got vital home games against teams that we are more than capable of beating and that is crucial to us staying up.

"Away to Leeds was always going to be a difficult one and we were disappointed at the way we conceded the goals.

"It was a heavy defeat. It is something we have got to move on from. The games come thick and fast and we have got to focus on the next game.

"Leeds was never going to be a game that would dictate whether we stay up this season but the games we have at home are going to be the key."

Assistant-manager Nathan Jones was left questioning the commitment of his players following Saturday's demoralising defeat at the Withdean.

The management team are now demanding a positive response from the squad - and Worthington insisted that there are big enough characters to pull Yeovil away from trouble.

"From my point of view if you are in this kind of situation you need strong characters who are willing to put their bodies on the line and work for each other," he said.

"I have looked around the dressing room and I think there are those characters.

"Everybody has got to step up to the plate now. We have got 11 games left and we have got to show what we are all about."

The 25 year old's performances have been a rare recent positive for the Glovers, with his never-say-die attitude earning plenty of fans.

Worthington, the Huddersfield club captain, moved temporarily to Huish Park after falling out of favour at the Galpharm Stadium under new manager Lee Clark.

After more than 200 games with his local club, Worthington was after a new challenge and is enjoying regular football.

He also failed to rule out an extension to his deal that would see him stay at the club for a third month and until the end of the season.

Worthington said: "I am taking each game as it comes. I have enjoyed my time here and am concentrating on it game by game.

"I think it works out that if Yeovil do extend it, it will just cover the end of the season.

"It works out okay, if that is the case.

"If both parties (Yeovil and Huddersfield) are happy then I will extend it."

Worthington also backed Skiverton and Jones as manager and assistant respectively, despite recent poor performances.

Despite the appointments raising eyebrows among some fans, Worthington said the pair are respected by the squad.

He said: "Terry Skiverton is very passionate and knows the club inside out.

"He is young and ambitious, along with Nathan Jones. They are very enthusiastic about everything and I think that is great for the club.

"I am sure it is just a matter of time before we start to put in the performances on the pitch that we should be.

"I think everyone at the club respects Terry and in the short time that I have been here I have seen that all the players respect him for what he has done as a player."
