A team from Preston Academy under-13's, representing Yeovil, were narrowly beaten in the final of the npower under-13's Girls Community Cup after a wonderful run yesterday.
The side went down by two goals to one to Cardiff City in the final after putting aside the disappointment of losing their first match to the same side to win their next three games and qualify for the semi finals.
They then beat Bristol Rovers in a sudden death penalty shootout before then losing out to their Welsh rivals. at the tournament played at Stanley Park Sports Ground near Chippenham.
Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust joint manager Roy O'Brien said "
It was a fantastic achievement for the girls and each and everyone of them played a massive part in getting to the final.
"We have invited the girls along to our match against Preston North End on Saturday 28th January and they will be invited on to the pitch at half time to perform a lap of honour."
"It was a pleasure to work with them and both myself and Sara were extremely proud to have them represent us."
The first match ended with Cardiff City winning 3-0 but the next three fixtures all saw comfortable wins for the Yeovil-based girls team with victories over Hereford United (3-0), Exeter City (4-0) and Bristol City (5-0) before they then took on City's rivals Rovers in the semi finals.
The game was close and ended with the Yeovil girls winning 3-2 in a sudden death penalty shootout bfore then losing 2-1 in the final with a much improved performance against Cardiff City.
