Yeovil Town Football Club have gained a new posse of supporters - in Afghanistan.
Troops serving there have been donning baseball caps and football shirts after the club donated the items to Curry Rivel pair Maurice Benton and Joanne Goody-Orris.
The duo, known as Mo and Jo, have sent nearly 7,000 shoeboxes full of items to soldiers serving abroad over the past few months and last year received fifty Yeovil Town replica shirts from manager Terry Skiverton.
Joanne, a sprightly eighty years young, told the Western Gazette this week "I thought it was fantastic and that the club could do with the extra fans. The troops have told us that the support from back home keeps them going though their morale is very low at the moment."
A fete at Isle Brewers last weekend raised another £100 plus many more items were donated meaning that another forty parcels are due to be sent this week. These include 70kg of dog biscuits for the sniffer dogs that are trained for seeking out explosives.
Yeovil Town's commercial manager Dave Linney said "We are more than happy to help Mo and Jo because we are a family club and many of the staff here have relatives serving in the forces. We think it is brilliant that there are now troops wearing YTFC merchandise and it is helping to put the club and the town on the map."
