YEOVIL TROUBLED BY CITY TREBLE

Goals from Ivan Sproule, David Clarkson (penalty) and Marlon Jackson gave Bristol City a 3-1 win at Huish Park tonight. The win, City's second in their pre-season build-up, came after Sam Williams had put the Glovers ahead with a sixth minute spot kick after strike partner Dean Bowditch was brought down inside the box.

The final scoreline was a little harsh on the home side who had the slight majority of the chances but the continual development of the Glovers squad will be of more pleasure to manager Terry Skiverton than tonight's result.

City keeper Dean Gerken had to be smart early on to deny Luke Freeman a goal and his opposite number John Sullivan was equally sharp when he pushed Albert Adomah's shot around for a corner.

The Glovers went ahead though on six minutes when Dean Bowditch was upended in the box and Sam Williams slammed home the penalty for his third goal of pre-season.

Craig Alcock headed over from an Andy Williams corner and Jean-Paul Kalala, looking for a repeat of Saturday's stunner against Manchester United, curled his shot wide.

On the quarter hour, City equalised when John Akinde ran down the left and his pass was finished off by Ivan Sproule at the far post.

Bowditch and Luke Freeman had half chances to put the Glovers ahead before Adomah fired over for the away side.

Ed Upson came on for Kalala on 35 minutes and he almost made a sensational impact with a flying shot that whistled wide of the post after good work from almost half the team in the build up.

Andy Williams had the final chance of the first half when he ran fully forty yards and shot over the bar leaving Gerken helpless.

City made seven substitutions at half time while Skiverton replaced Nathan Jones and Dean Bowditch with Nathan Smith and Andy Welsh.

Yeovil forced City on to the back foot early in the second half forcing two corners early on and Paul Huntington found himself in the thick of it from a free kick shortly afterwards, stabbing the ball wide.

On the hour, City went ahead when Adam Virgo fouled David Clarkson in the box and the Scottish striker converted the penalty himself.

The Glovers threw on new loan signing Rob Kiernan and Danny Hutchins for Luke Ayling and Huntington while City replaced Ivan Sproule with Charlie Taylor.

With fifteen minutes to go, Andy Williams shot over after being set up by Luke Freeman and his namesake Sam chipped an effort on to the roof of the net after more good work from Freeman.

With three minutes to go, the scoreline took on a cruel look when sub Marlon Jackson's shot was half blocked by Sullivan but bounced into the roof of the net.

city

A long range effort from Hutchins was the final fling from a Yeovil side that battled well against their Championship opponents tonight but ultimately fell short.
