THE NEWS AT ONE - JULY 6TH

Posted on: Tue 06 Jul 2010
Two of the most recogniseable names in the recent League One scene are on the move today.

Norwich City centre back Gary Doherty has signed a two year deal with Charlton Athletic. The 30-year-old defender, who has been at Carrow Road for six years since joining from Tottenham Hotspur, was released by the Canaries in May.

Meanwhile midfielder David Prutton has switched League One clubs by leaving Colchester United and joining Swindon Town. Prutton, 28, has signed a two year deal with the Robins with an option of a third. The long-haired midfielder previously played for Southampton, Leeds and Nottingham Forest where he was dismissed in the League One play-off semi final second leg in 2007 against Yeovil.

Southampton striker David Connolly has extended his stay at St Mary's Stadium by another year with his decision to sign a new contract. Connolly, 33, arrived from Sunderland having endured an injury hit time at the Stadium of Light.

Carlisle United have signed Huddersfield Town midfielder James Berrett on an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old Eire u-21 international is a product of the Terriers' academy system and made nine first team appearances last season.

Oldham chairman Simon Blitz and director Danny Gazal have both resigned from the board at Boundary Park with Blitz being replaced by director Simon Corney. The three men together rescued Oldham from administration in 2003.

Also today, the Latics have appointed former Wolves and Leeds United player Paul Butler as chief scout.
