Jemma Tewkesbury grabbed four dramatic goals at the Court Place Farm Stadium on Sunday, as the Glovers put in a superb second half performance to gain a great 7-0 victory over Oxford City to win the league championship and win promotion to the FA Women's Premier league, Southern Division.
At 0-0, the match had been poised at half time, but Yeovil came out for the second period and put in a wonderful performance to take the game in style with seven well taken goals, Stacey Pearson, Lindsey Roe and Terri Trowbridge joining Tewkesbury on the score sheet.
Tewkesbury's four strikes not only gave her the South West Combination's golden boot award, but also put her in the record books as the league's all time top scorer for a season, breaking the previous record of 38 by one goal, and smashing the record for goals in all competitions, with her total of 52 easily beating the previous record of 42.
It has been a great season for Jemma, with every one of her goals adding prestige to what has been a glorious campaign for the whole club.
"People are talking about Jemma's goal scoring achievements this season, and quite rightly so," Steve Phelps said after the match. "She is a great player and a massive component in the team, but she could not have reached the heights without the superb collection of players around her.
We have quality in every part of the squad, and together they have provided us all a great season.
"Most of the players in the squad are still very young and are years off reaching their peak. The potential of this team is almost boundless. They have done themselves proud this season, and I feel sure that they are going to help take this club even higher in the years to come. I feel so proud today, and excited about what we might achieve in the future."
