FORMER YEOVIL PLAYER PASSES AWAY

Posted on: Thu 18 Mar 2010
Former Yeovil Town footballer Arthur Stenner has died at his home in Yeovil. He was 76 years old and had suffered with heart problems and dementia for ten years.

Mr Stenner was well known around the town after he spent three decades running the local removals and storage business, A.W.Stenner & Sons.

His son Martin, talking to the Western Gazette, said "Dad was a very good family man and he loved talking to people. He would go out of the way to help people and he loved his family too."

Arthur Stenner was Yeovil-born and educated at what is now Stanchester School in Stoke-sub-Hamdon. He played football for Somerset Boys and turned professional with Yeovil at seventeen.

After National Service interrupted his career, he returned to play for Bristol City, Plymouth Argyle, Norwich, Chard and Weymouth.

The funeral will be handled by Wakely Brothers of Sparrow Road, the business that bought Mr Stenner's furniture shop in the eighties.

Arthur leaves a wife, Fay; three sons, Kevin, Martin and Mark and two grandsons, Martin and William.

Yeovil Town Football Club send their sincere condolences to the family.
