Reserves Start Season All Square
The Yeovil Town Reserve team started off their league season with a 1-1 draw at Huish Park against Swindon Town Reserves, in what was a bright and entertaining match.
The Glovers took the lead just before half time when Jerahl Hughes scored a well taken goal, but the Robins came back in the second period, with Nathan Thompson netting their goal.
Yeovil put out a strong side for the game that included Terry Skiverton, Mark Lynch, Lee Morris and in the end Paul Warne as well.
Skiverton, Lynch and Warne enjoyed good run outs, but Morris unfortunately came off early on, having injured his knee.
It was a pleasing game for the Glovers coaching staff, with some of the squad's younger playera also getting some valuable match practice, as well as two trialists on show.
Speaking after the game Stuart Housley was happy with what he had seen:
"It was a good and entertaining game, with both sides trying to play football," he said.
"We had a couple of trialists, and a sprinkling of youth team players as well, including Reyn Turnock, Danny O'Brien and Carl Lazenby, who all played most of the match.
"They all played very well.
"It was also a game where Paul Warne, Terry Skiverton, Mark Lynch and Lee Morris had a run out.
"Unfortunately, Lee suffered an injury early on.
"It was great for Skivo to have 45 minutes and he felt alright afterwards.
"Paul Warne had a good game too, leading the line very well.
"Steve Maher and Tom Clarke also took part and both did themselves justice with good performances, especially Clarkey who was operating out of position at left back.
"Jerahl Hughes scored a terrific goal, just before half time, when he cut in from the left hand side and shot with his right foot, with the ball going over the line for a good goal.
"It was a bit disappointing when Swindon equalised, because we had had the better of the play and created more chances.
"We missed a few chances, which we should perhaps have scored from, but overall we were pleased with the performance of the team.
"It was a good work out, and an enjoyable game.
"The veteran Steve Thompson came on for the last few minutes and looked spritely."
Reserve Team Manager, Steve Thompson was equally delighted with the afternoon's work despite his team not managing to hold on for the win.
"I was pleased with the match," he said.
"We had a bit of a mix and match with some experienced players out there, with the likes of Skiverton, Warne and Lynch on show, but then we had some younger lads, who have not played for the reserves at all.
"They showed the right attitude, and it was a decent game, because it was a close game,
"A draw was probably a fair result."
