Russell Looks Forward
Russell Slade has had a productive pre-season, building a squad that he feels will challenge for promotion this coming season.
The players have gelled and are now ready for competitive football, and as far as Russell Slade is concerned, you can't beat that competitive element.
"It is nice to play in a game that means something," he said.
"There will be three points at stake and we will be back in a competitive world, in a stadium full of fans all wanting their respective team to win."
With pre-season now over and done with, the Yeovil boss is focused on the job in hand tomorrow at the Galpharm Stadium tomorrow, and is well aware of the threat a strengthened Huddersfield will present.
"With Peter Jackson gone, Andy Ritchie is now the manager and he has probably got them playing in a slightly different way," Russell noted.
"Maybe some players have taken that on board in a positive way, who is to know.
"Certainly their pre-season has been strong with them beating the likes of Blackburn and Mansfield and they are in the peak of form.
"Whereas ourselves, I don't necessarily think that we have reached our peak just yet, but there has not been any points at stake,
"But hopefully we can react to the fact that we are starting the season properly this Saturday."
Finishing off, Russell said that he is not put off with the task ahead, and that his squad are feeling positive ahead of the game:
"It is an awkward first game of the season for us," he said.
"It is amazing that as a football club, we have never had a home game since we've been in the Football League, but that's life.
"They are the cards that we have been dealt and we will do our very best, like we did there last season when we came away with three fantastically valuable points.
"We'll be positive.
"We know that we have to work harder than most teams in this league, so we'll go out with a good work ethic, hopefully organized enough, and with enough about us to bring home some points."
