Yeovil slipped out of their second cup competition of the season when beaten by two goals to one at a noisy Dean Court tonight.
The defeat means that Yeovil have just the FA Cup to look forward to as respite from the league as September arrives.
Bournemouth started off impressively and forced a corner inside the first minute that came to nothing.
They were not far away from taking the lead in the fourth minute when Alan Connell just failed to get on to the end of a through ball from the Cherries midfield.
Yeovil were struggling to impose themselves on to the home side and it took until the eighth minute for Yeovil to make any inroads into the Bournemouth danger zone, Andy Welsh's free kick being easily held by keeper Shwan Jalal
The hosts were still looking more likely to score with Connell again and then Brett Pitman both going close to giving their side the lead.
Yeovil's first real effort came from Scott Murray, still looking for his 100th career goal, who screwed his shot wide of the upright. Bournemouth's pressure started to tell again though and Martin had to get down smartly and save from Lee Bradbury's header on the half hour.
A minute later and the home side thought they'd broken the deadlock when Pitman headed home from a cross but referee Phillips disallowed it for a push by the burly striker.
Out of nowhere with eight minutes of the half remaining, Yeovil striker Gavin Tomlin met a cross from Sam Williams and glanced his header against the post.
The game began to ebb and flow with Williams shooting over but the goal drought was finally broken seconds before half time with a move straight off the training ground.
Warren Cummings pulled his corner back, Sammy Igoe dummied it cleverly and Pitman hit his shot low and hard through a melee of players to make it 1-0.
Yeovil brought Tomlin off and replaced him with Jonathan Obika. The Glovers almost grabbed an early equaliser in the second half when Terrell Forbes headed down but Jalal held the effort.
The game entered a niggly stage with both sides fizzing and biting in the centre of the pitch; Williams and Murtagh both seeing yellow for challenges.
O'Callaghan almost snatched a leveller on 52 minutes when his header hit the upright too but Bournemouth got their second twenty minutes into the second period.
Another cute corner taking routine involving Cummings again saw the cross headed home powerfully by Connell.
Pitman and Obika exchanged chances before Sammy Igoe stung keeper Martin's hands with a left-foot thumped shot.
Yeovil manager Terry Skiverton sent on Andre McCollin and Andy Lindegaard for Andy Welsh and Scott Murray and with four minutes left, the long awaited Glovers goal arrived.
Williams created himself some space before laying the ball through for Obika (pictured) to calmly slip the ball under the keeper and into the net.
Despite the five minutes of time added on, the visitors just couldn't find the necessary second goal to take it to penalties and exited the Trophy at its earliest stage.
