Yeovil produced one of their best away displays of the season as they overcame play-off hopefuls Walsall at a chilly Banks's Stadium tonight.

A 5th minute goal from ex-Walsall loanee Sam Williams grabbed all three points in a much improved away showing tonight.

Manager Terry Skiverton made two changes to the side that lost 2-0 at Charlton Athletic on Saturday. Andy Welsh and Arron Davies dropped to the bench to be replaced by Gavin Tomlin and Jean-Paul Kalala.

A pre-match blizzard had left the pitch, already looking well churned up, with a carpet of thinly laid snow, not entirely conducive with quality passing football.

The Glovers actually had a shot on goal inside twenty seconds when Shaun MacDonald put Dean Bowditch through but keeper Clayton Ince saved the effort with his feet.

Yeovil's positive attitude paid dividends with an unbelievable start when Sam Williams put them in front after just four minutes. Tomlin's ball in from the right saw the big striker get up with the keeper and as the ball ran loose, Williams poked the ball home to net against the side he was loaned to last season.

On eleven minutes, the Saddlers had their first sight of goal but Josh O'Keefe's shot went well wide of Alex McCarthy's goal.

Terrell Forbes earned the first yellow card of the night bringing down Darren Byfield halfway inside the Yeovil half but the resulting free kick came to nothing.

wal

O'Keefe had another attempt that went wide on the half hour as chances started to become few and far between. Yeovil's constant harrying and chasing of the hosts was forcing them into mistakes and misplaced passes which infuriated the home contingent.

As the half went on, both Tomlin and Kalala had chances to increase Yeovil's lead but Tomlin's header and Kalaa's shot failed to trouble Ince.

wals

Kalala had another shot after being slipped a short free kick from Tomlin as the Glovers continued to push forward.

They forced two corners in the dying moments of the first period after MacDonald's shot was superbly turned around the post and then Alcock's header was gathered by  Ince.

The second half opened with a much more energetic looking home side and three times in the first ten minutes they scared the Glovers. Craig Alcock had to clear with a backward header facing his own goal from a dangerous cross before first O'Keefe and then Alex Nicholls had half chances to equalise.

wal

Williams had a clear sight of goal on 54 minutes when Bowditch's shot was parried to him by Ince but the rebound came too quick for the ex-Villa forward and he put his shot over.

wal

Walsall continued to enjoy the greater possession and Byfield fired over after creating his own space to get a shot in. The Saddlers also forced two corners in quick succession as they pushed for the leveller.

wal

After good work down the left, Steven Caulker of all people found himself in space but his shot was blocked by Ince and Williams suffered the same fate seconds later as his shot was dealt with similarly.

Yeovil had a great chance to grab a deserved second when Williams flicked header found Bowditch who ran on, rounded the keeper but found the angle too tight and stabbed his shot wide.

wal

MacDonald ran twenty yards from midfield and dug out a shot that Ince again saved, the big keeper keeping his side in the match almost single handedly.

Arron Davies came on for Gavin Tomlin in the last minute of normal time as the tireless ex-Fisher man came off for a well-deserved rest but despite three minutes of stoppage time, the Glovers secured their third away win of the season.
