Yeovil made it nine games without a win as two Rickie Lambert penalties were enough to see off the Glovers this afternoon.

Lambert, who has now scored five goals in his last two games against Yeovil, scored on 18 and 50 minutes to sink Yeovil's chances of a first away win under Terry Skiverton.

Yeovil had started the brighter with Sam Williams' glancing header and Andy Welsh's rising shot making Saints keeper Kelvin Davis work. jean-Paul Kalala (pictured) was looking impressive running the midfield area.

On eight minutes, Lambert's thirty yard free kick, a distance he can be lethal from, was blocked and two minutes later, Gavin Tomlin saw his diving header sail over.

The game was halted for treatment to Williams and Davis after they clashed at a set piece and as the game got back into gear, Saints were awarded their first spot-kick.

Terrell Forbes tangled with a Saints striker who theatrically went down on the corner of the box and referee Tony Bates pointed to the spot. Lambert despatched his penalty into keeper Richard Martin's right hand corner.

The Saints grew in confidence and forced two quick corners before Welsh replied for Yeovil with a shot easily held by Davis. As half time approached, Yeovil came more into the game with headers from Williams and Craig Alcock whistling wide.

The second half began terribly for Yeovil as a second, baffling penalty was given by referee Bates after his assistant referee had flagged.. Nathan Jones was adjudged to have handled in the box and Lambert safely tucked away his second of the afternoon.

The next twenty minutes seemed to be all Southampton as they started with the "Ole" football penning Yeovil back in their half of the pitch.

Referee Bates, unitl now hesitant to issue yellows for challenges, started brandishing them for various offences. Andy Welsh departed early being replaced by Nathan Smith but the pattern of play stayed the same.

In the last quarter, the Glovers huffed and puffed a lot but depsite three efforts from Ryan Mason plus other attempts from Steven Caulker and Tomlin, Yeovil's disappointing away form has continued.
