Sam was born in Greenwich, South London and joined Aston Villa as a teenager. Initially, he was regarded as a defensive midfielder but was pushed further forward as other strikers were recovering from injury.
Sam, who stands 6'2", didn't play for the first team at Villa Park but was sent out on loan spells at five clubs to gain experience of first-team football.
His first loan period was with Wrexham in 2006 as strike partner for Matt Derbyshire. Derbyshire was prolific in the time they were together thanks mainly to his hard-working colleague. Williams himself scored on his debut against Wycombe Wanderers.
Later that season, he joined Brighton and subsequently Colchester on loan, scoring on his debut for the latter against Bournemouth.
Two seasons ago, Sam spent time with Walsall before returning to Villa Park then going back out to Brentford for whom he scored on his second appearance.
In the summer of 2009, he teamed up with Terry Skiverton's squad down in North Devon for the Errea South-West Challenge Cup and impressed the manager in his two games scoring the equaliser in the second tie against Grimsby Town.
After he signed permanently, he scored his first goal for Yeovil in the game against Stockport County and added three more goals before suffering a knee inury towards the end of the season.
Season 2010/11 has seen Sam take his place in the Glovers frontline once more and he reached his 100th career senior appearance when he started the match against Rochdale.
