15th May 2022

Yeovil Town’s season comes to a close with a trip to Altrincham on Sunday afternoon (3pm).

Josh Staunton will take charge of the final day fixture, before the appointment of a new manager next week.

The match could see Yeovil Town finish as high as 12th following a topsy-turvery campaign.

Josh Staunton’s thoughts

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Staunton said; “I didn’t expect to be in this position, especially before speaking to Charlie (Lee) and subsequently the chairman, but it’s the way this season has been really.

“We’ve just got to give it our best going into Sunday, there’s not really to much to say other than that.:

Team news
In his pre-match press conference, Staunton said that club captain Luke Wilkinson was suffering with illness.

Max Hunt suffered an injury against Bath in the Somerset Premier Cup final and will sit out on the final day.

A foot in the opposition camp

This weekend’s game signals the end of Altrincham’s time as a part-time club, as from next season the club will be operating full time.

This means a number of players will be departing, including no.1 Tony Thompson.

Phil Parkinson, who led the club to promotion from the National League North, remains in charge and will be hoping to kick on with a full-time squad next season.

Have we met before?

Since their promotion to the National League last season, the Glovers have endured mixed fortunes against Alty.

Last season both teams earned themselves three points at their own ground, with Yeovil winning 2-0 at Huish Park thanks to goals from Rhys Murphy and Chris Dagnall.

This season, Town were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Alty.
